Ventilation

Ventilation HoodVentilating is one of the most important factors for maintaining safe and pleasant indoor air quality. Not just getting smoke out of the room, ventilation controls temperature, replenishes oxygen, and removes moisture, odors, smoke, heat, dust, airborne bacteria, carbon dioxide. Ventilation devices remove unpleasant smells and introduce outside air, keeping interior air circulating, and preventing stagnation of air. Ventilation includes both the exchange of air to the outside as well as circulation of air within the kitchen. It is one of the most important factors for maintaining acceptable indoor air quality.

Vent Hoods and Downdraft Vents

Sure your dishes taste amazing, but cooking them generates greasy, smoky, murky byproducts that you don’t want to breath or get all over the rest of your kitchen. Banish these dirty culprits with an updraft via downdraft, send outside or filtration systems. The layout and structure of your kitchen, local building codes, and your design inclination all contribute to deciding which vent is perfect for your new dream kitchen. Our designers have a wealth of knowledge regarding systems with higher airflow, lower noise rating, and common standards set for Hoods and Vents.

Updraft vent hood

Vent hoods (also known as range hoods), located over a range or cooktop work in one of two ways: The dirty, greasy air is pulled up by a fan and rises, passes through filters, and is sent outdoors through a duct. Or a fan draws the dirty air through a filtration system and recirculates the cleaned air back into the kitchen.

Downdraft vent

A downdraft blower is built into a bottom base cabinet (as opposed to placed over the cooking area). It pulls air down through vents placed on the sides and back of the cooktop. Another option is to buy a separate retractable blower that raises up behind the cooktop while you cook and lowers out of view when you’re done. Such vents can be great for cleaning air from island cooktops, where a hood may not work as well. Downdraft vents can offer a more subtle ventilation method than an overhanging hood, providing different design possibilities.
